What is DaVinci Resolve?

DaVinci Resolve is a video editing software known for its excellent color grading tools. It's great for all levels of video editors, from beginners to professionals. What's really appealing is its free version, which offers many powerful features, making it accessible for anyone starting out or on a budget. DaVinci Resolve provides a good balance of advanced capabilities and user-friendliness, making it a popular choice for creating high-quality videos.

Is DaVinci free?

Technically, yes. DaVinci has a pretty powerful free version that anyone can just download and use. And if that’s not enough, you can always buy DaVinci’s paid version, which in a one time purchase and offers many additional features. Let’s compare them:

Free Version of DaVinci Resolve:

  • Good for basic video editing, color changes, and adding effects.
  • Works up to 4K resolution, which is great for most projects.
  • Perfect for individual users.

Paid Version (DaVinci Resolve Studio):

  • Has everything the free version does, plus some extra professional tools.
  • Can handle really high-quality videos, even above 4K.
  • Great for teams working together on a project.

In short, the free version is enough for most people, but if you're doing really high-end work or working in a team, the paid version has more to offer.

Given the many online resources and videos, I’d say that it’s not the hardest. DaVinci Resolve has a bit of a learning curve, but it's manageable, especially if you've used video editing software before. Its interface is user-friendly, and there are lots of online tutorials and guides to help you along the way. While it's packed with advanced features, the basics of editing are pretty straightforward.

TIP: to save time = use templates

Templates are pre-made footages and frames that you can simply download and use in your videos. You can find templates for almost anything: from titles, logo animations and motion graphics, to slideshows, multiscreens or simply whole video templates, intros, buttons and so much more.

Where to search for templates?

I personally use Envato Elements, which offers thousands of DaVinci templates. And the primary reason os that I can get access to all of their templates just with 1 subscription, which is really amazing!
